A Massachusetts woman was seriously injured Sunday when a wheel came off a pickup truck and struck her windshield on Route 95 in Pawtucket, according to the Rhode Island State Police.
The woman, who is in her 20s, was in critical condition Monday morning at Rhode Island Hospital, according to Sgt. Erik Yanyar. Her name has not been released.
At about 3 p.m. Sunday, the woman was driving south on Route 95 near exit 27 when the left rear wheel came off a pickup truck that was traveling on the northbound side, Yanyar said.

The wheel bounced across the northbound side of the three-lane highway and over a concrete barrier into the southbound side, according to Yanyar.
After the wheel struck the windshield of the woman's SUV, the vehicle swerved right and hit a concrete barrier before going left across the southbound section of highway and hitting the concrete barrier on the left side, Yanyar said.
The driver of the pickup truck was able to pull over near the exit, Yanyar said. The police don't believe there was any criminal wrongdoing, although the crash is still under investigation, according to Yanyar.
"It seems like a freak accident," he said.
A Pawtucket Fire Department ambulance took the injured woman to Rhode Island Hospital, according to Yanyar.
