"Wheel of Fortune" has been around for more than 37 years, but in 2016 they introduced a new crossword puzzle format which contains a small rule that's been frustrating contestants ever since. On Wednesday's show contestant David Pedersen became another cautionary tale as he accidentally added "and" while listing the words in crossword.

While some fans blamed David for the gaffe, the vast majority of fans on Twitter voiced their disdain for the trivial rule. One fan tweeted, "The 'and' rule during crossword puzzles is the dumbest rule since the 'you must wear a shirt' rule at Applebee’s."

Pedersen still went home with $1,000 which he can put towards his career goals as a podiatrist. “We have a motto in my office," said Pedersen. "Keep America beautiful one toe at a time.”

DAVID PETERSON: Sole, flounder, cod, and catfish.

PAT SAJAK: I'm sorry, that's not right. And Danielle, it's your turn.

KYLIE MAR: "Wheel of Fortune" has been around for more than 37 years, but in 2016, they introduced a new crossword puzzle format which contains a technicality that's been frustrating contestants ever since. And on Wednesday's show, contestant David Peterson became another cautionary tale.

DANIELLE SCHNEIDER-WILLIAMS: Sole, cod, catfish, flounder?

PAT SAJAK: Yeah, that's it.

DANIELLE SCHNEIDER-WILLIAMS: I thought that's what you said.

PAT SAJAK: Yeah, I know it's always confusing, and David did that thing that's so easy to do, he added the "and."

KYLIE MAR: While some fans blamed David for the gaffe, the vast majority of fans on Twitter voiced their disdain for the trivial rule, with one fan tweeting, "The "and" rule during crossword puzzles is the dumbest rule since the "you must wear a shirt" rule at Applebee's." And even though some viewers reveled in David's misfortune, he still went home with $1,000, which he can put towards his career goals as a podiatrist.

DAVID PETERSON: We have a motto at our office, "Keeping America beautiful, one toe at a time."

PAT SAJAK: You know, I find that oddly moving.
