Twelve years ago a young Ken Block filmed a video called Gymkhana Practice and put it on the old (young) internet. Apparently there was a market for it, because the thing took off like a rocket. But after nine more videos and a couple of side projects, Block hung up the old heel-and-toers, challenging rally driver, stuntman and friend Travis Pastrana to take over the series, at least for a little while. Pastrana obliged and here we have his first Gymkhana, number 11 in the series, shot in Annapolis, Maryland.
Pastrana is using a purpose-built (by Vermont SportsCar), 862-hp, all-wheel drive Subaru WRX STI for the film, and we'll say he starts strong. Just your average jump over a river while a Hoonigan-branded hydroplane cruises beneath. There's another jump later (on a public road) that will give you vertigo with the height and distance.
Well, done, Mr. Pastrana. A worthy successor indeed. And enjoy my rankings of the first nine Gymkhana videos below. After you watch the one above.
