ACS Composite has released a set of stainless steel wheel stud extenders for both the C8 Corvette and C7 Corvette, allowing users to more easily and safely remove their sports car’s wheels and tires.
These wheel stud extenders, or wheel hangers as they are sometimes referred to, help serve as a perch for the wheel during removal. The stainless steel female-threaded guide is 7.8 inches long (200mm) and can be used to rest the wheel on while the user tightens the wheel bolts. ACS Composite says the extenders can also prevent the user from chipping the vehicle’s brake calipers and rotors during the wheel removal process and can reduce the strain on their back, potentially preventing injury.
“Whether you are doing maintenance work or simply detailing, removing the wheels can be a much simpler task with the correct tool,” ACS Composite says on its website. “This is the best insurance you can buy for your wheels (other than actual insurance).”
Many Corvette owners don’t remove their own wheels and have a shop do it instead. ACS Composite encourages these owners to leave the wheel hangers in their glove box and let their mechanic know when they drop the car off for service. This way they won’t have to worry about a technician dropped their wheel on a powder-coated brake caliper or rotor and causing costly damage.
Owners of C7 Corvette models with carbon ceramic brakes may be particularly interested in this product, as the carbon fiber rotors are extremely expensive and can be quite fragile and prone to chips and other damage. This will eventually apply to certain C8 Corvette models, as well, but there has yet to be a C8 Corvette variant offered with carbon ceramic brake rotors.
Each set of wheel stud extenders for the C8 Corvette and C7 Corvette comes with two studs and is priced from $123 USD. The company also several other wheel-related accessories for the Corvette that buyers may be interested in purchasing along with the extenders, including black wheel lug nuts and a protective lug nut socket tool.
