'Wheel of Fortune' viewers blast rule after contestant loses on technicality - New York Post

They want to reinvent the Wheel.

Fans of the long-running “Wheel of Fortune” didn’t mince words about a 2016 rule that cost a contestant a chance to win big bucks Wednesday night.

David Pederson correctly answered, “Soul, Flounder, Cod and Catfish,” but host Pat Sajak nixed it because of the word “and,” which is not allowed under the crossword puzzle format, Yahoo Entertainment reported.

The crossword is a categorical list that often comprises four words, but contestants are not allowed to say “and” before the last word — a nit-picky rule that has nullified correct answers before.

“No, sorry. That’s not right,” Sajak told Pederson after he uttered the no-no conjunction.

A fellow competitor then solved the puzzle by providing the same list, this time without the banned word.

The technicality elicited a wave of angry comments in social media.

“Wheel of Fortune’s draconian rule where you lose if you add ‘and’ to the crossword puzzle has to go,” user @JEB_II said on Twitter.

“They need to fix that freakin’ ‘and’ rule for #WheelOfFortune crossword puzzles. Come on,” @MitchO opined.

And @aaronbotas said: “Another contestant losing out on money because they said AND on the crossword puzzle. @WheelofFortune just change the dumbest rule ever and allow this.”
