SANFORD, S.C. — Black's Tire & Wheel Distributors (BTS) raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars for the youth of the Carolinas during its recent charity golf tournament.

BTS said it raised $221,021 during the 21st annual BTS Boys & Girls Home of North Carolina (BGCHNC) charity golf tournament, which was held March 19 at the Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford.

More than 220 golfers participated. Every dollar raised went directly to the charity.

The Whiteville, N.C.-based family-owned tire dealership has raised more than $1.5 million for the Boys & Girls Home in recent years through the golf tournament.

"We are so proud of our Black's Tire families, vendor partners and customers," Blacks Tire owner Ricky Benton said. "(The year) 2020 was tough in a lot of ways and really affected fundraising needed for the homes. As a non-profit they depend on donations. We are blessed to be able to put something like this together."

Ricky Creech, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Home, said BTS is its largest corporate partner, "led by the Benton Family, whose passion for and commitment to the children and youth we serve is nothing short of love in action."

BGHNC is a charity dedicated to providing an array of residential and community-based services to meet the needs of children by addressing their physical, emotional, social, educational and spiritual development.

Mr. Creech thanked Rick and Diane Benton, as well as their sons, Ricky Jr., Ryan and Jeremy and the entire BTS staff for "for their tireless efforts to help these children. Black's Tire works all year long to help raise these needed funds."

Crowell Black, founder of Blacks Tire in 1929, was on the original BGHNC foundation board and helped get the foundation off the ground in the 1950s.

Ricky Benton thanked the BTS Tire & Wheel partner dealers, vendors and friends.

"You help us make a difference in these children's lives," he said. "Our team also works hard all year long to raise additional funds ... The work is never done as these children and situations need our support."

"God bless everyone that had a part in giving back," Mr. Benton said.
