Sure, Akron may not have the allure of Oahu. We're low on beaches, and we get that.
Yes, it's going to be zero degrees here this week. Hawaii's probably warmer.
Still, "Wheel of Fortune's" iconic host, Pat Sajak, took a shot at the Rubber City in an episode that aired Tuesday night.
A contestant named Toni solved a puzzle, which read "GRACEFUL HULA DANCERS." It was a prize puzzle, so, clearly, she was headed for Hawaii.
But Sajak drew it out anyway.
"So we're sending you somewhere," he said coyly.
"It's either, Akron..."
Spoiler alert, it wasn't.
"Topeka..."
Sorry, Kansas, we're in this one together.
"Or Oahu."
OK, OK, we get it. That's "better."
Toni was, of course, pleased. Akron Twitter — less so.
"I vacation in Akron," one Twitter user wrote directly to Sajak.
Another, whom Akron should clearly hire to work in tourism, also backed the city up, and came with both facts and photos.
"Akron is an amazing City, filled with vibrant neighborhoods, beautiful parks and of course the Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens," he wrote, attaching a photo of the gardens in full bloom.
He was, however, glad to see Sajak "redeemed" himself just before the show cut to commercial.
"And by the way, Akron and Topeka are both fine places to spend time, too, when you get a chance to do that," Sajak said.
