A Jersey City teen and four pals were arrested after police found them Sunday in vehicle that had been stolen two days earlier, authorities said.
Police near the area of Sip and Bergen avenues spotted the 2020 burgundy Kia Telluride Sunday at 1:13 a.m., Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said. The driver, a 17-year-old boy, fled and was quickly located a few blocks away.
Yesica Labeet, 19, of Prospect Park in Passaic County, and two 21-year-olds, Jacqueline Llanos of West New York and Delvi Baez-Pineda of Jersey City, as well as a 15-year-old girl from Staten Island were charged with joyriding as a means of conveyance, Wallace-Scalcionce said.
The 17-year-old was charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and obstruction.
Wallace-Scalcione said the Telluride was reported stolen Friday from Columbia Avenue after a home was broken into and the car keys were stolen. Police recovered two PS5 game consoles, a pair of Jordan sneakers, two backpacks, a wallet and keys to the vehicle.
