Stonington -- Police charged a Bridgeport man Thursday with first-degree reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a child after police say he grabbed the steering wheel of the car he was riding in, causing it to swerve on Interstate 95.
Joshua Adams, 29, was also charged with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening.
Police said that Adams, who they described as heavily intoxicated, was in the passenger seat and arguing with the woman who was driving. An infant was also in the car.
Police said the woman told them that Adams threatening to strangle and kill her. He then grabbed the steering wheel and pulled it causing the car to swerve erratically. At the Henny Penny Shell on Liberty Street in Pawcatuck where the woman stopped the car, police said Adams then smashed beer bottles in the parking lot. That is where police took him into custody at 8:46 p.m. after they responded to a disturbance there.
Adams was arraigned in court Friday and was initially released on a $25,000 cash bond. Court records, though, show that a judge then ordered him rearrested.
