September 11, 2020 -- “Wheel of Fortune” fans will notice changes when the popular game show returns Monday for its 38th season.

The game will be played the same, but the set has been redesigned with safety measures to protect co-hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White, the guests, and the crew, USA Today said, citing a news release from the show's production company, Sony Pictures Television.

“The wheel was slightly redesigned to extend the platform surrounding the Wheel to allow for 6 feet of space between Pat Sajak and each of the contestants,” the release said.

A curved monitor has been installed to surround the wheel. Each contestant will be given a “spinning cap,” which is a cloth that allows contestants to grip and spin the wheel without touching it.

Other changes in the studio include only allowing essential staff and crew onstage, providing personal protective equipment (PPE) to everybody behind the scenes, enforcing social distancing onstage and off, and testing the crew on a regular basis before they come to the studio for taping.

"Our challenge was not unique, to get back up and running in a way that is safe for everyone involved while making subtle improvements to make America's Game even better. I think we have accomplished that in a big way, and our fans can be comfortable knowing that they're going to tune in to see the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ they love," executive producer Mike Richards said in a statement.
Another popular game show -- “Jeopardy!” -- is also coming back with new episodes and a remodeled studio, USA Today said.

Both shows stopped filming in front of audiences on March 10 because of coronavirus restrictions and stopped filming completely on March 16. The shows began filming new episodes recently.
