“Wheel Of Fortune” returns for its 38th season with a special run of shows this week that focus on contestants who, like the game show, start a new year each fall — school teachers.

As part of Teacher’s Week that kicks off Monday, Sept. 14, the long-running game show will feature seven teachers from schools in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino counties.

Special note to kids: If you watch and your teacher wins, you should ask for extra Zoom recess or more time to turn in your homework. It’s the least they can do, right?

“Wheel Of Fortune” did not identify the specific schools where the teacher-contestants work, only the cities from which they come. In the order that the local educators will appear this week they are:

Monday, Sept. 14: Jolena Lomax of Compton teaches history, computer science, and serves as an assistant basketball coach. She’s got four kids and says the whole family is into “Wheel Of Fortune” after they all got competitive on the PlayStation version of the game. She says she’ll share her winnings with her husband and kids … maybe.

Tuesday, Sept. 15: Naila Ferdousi of Mission Viejo teaches high school math and says she’s watched “Wheel Of Fortune” for as long as she can recall, which made appearing on it surreal for her.

Susan Bull of Rancho Cucamonga has taught for 15 years and is a teacher for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Her parents watched the show when she was a kid and years later she’s on the family’s fave show. Her goal is to win enough for a sweet vacation.

Wednesday, Sept. 16: Dan Moroaica of Pico Rivera is a married father of two who has been a social studies teacher for 16 years. He always hollers “Good morning, everyone!” to start the school day and his hobbies include collecting toys and comics and eating chocolate.

Corrie Cockle of Garden Grove is also married with two kids and has taught kindergarten for 23 years, which is a whole lot of storytime. She says she would donate some of her winnings to her kids’ charities of choice as well as the school district’s educational foundation.

Thursday, Sept. 17: Sandra Rocha of Santa Fe Springs teaches 8th graders, which must be more challenging than solving ‘Wheel Of Fortune” puzzles. Her subjects are language arts and social studies and her school is in the same district she attended when she was a kid. As a youth, she’d play along at home with her dad who would pay her a buck for each puzzle she got right. Now she’s looking to add to those winnings.

Lorraine Bolden of Harbor City is a retired federal government employee who now works as a substitute teacher to give a little back to her community. She’s been watching “Wheel Of Fortune” for 36 years which is — let’s check the math — every year so far but the first. If she wins she wants to remodel her house and cruise the Mexican Riviera.
