A Joliet woman got into an argument with a man driving a Chevy Impala, grabbed the wheel and caused the car to crash into a home in Crest Hill, police said.
On Sunday, officers were called to the 2300 block of Plainfield Road regarding a crash with injuries, said Crest Hill Deputy Police Chief Bradley Hertzmann. When the officers arrived, they saw a vehicle crashed into a home, he said.
Through an investigation, the officers learned Elizabeth Paradez, 28, of the 400 block of East Jackson Street was in an argument with the man who was driving the car, Hertzmann said.
He said he didn’t know the relationship between the two but they were apparently out for dinner on Sunday evening, left and got into an argument.
At one point, Paradez grabbed the steering wheel, jerked it to the right and the car ended up crashing into a home on Plainfield Road, he said. The car went through the front entrance side of the home, he said.
Four people were inside the home but none were injured, Hertzmann said. Paradez and the driver were taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for injuries that were not life threatening, he said.
She refused to give a statement to the police about what happened, he said.
Paradez was taken to the Will County jail on charges of reckless conduct, according to court records. She remains in jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
Her bond was set at $5,000 and she will need to post $500 for her release, jail records show.
Paradez’s next court date is scheduled for Sept. 8.
