Maxion's Akron wheel plant expected to close, laying off 80, after 93 years - Akron Beacon Journal

A local wheel manufacturing will shut down its Akron plant later this year, leading to dozens of lost jobs.

Maxion Wheels plans to shut down its Seiberling Street plant, according to a notice filed to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

An expected 80 employees will lose their jobs. The company said in the notice that layoffs would start on or about Nov. 6, but that production will stop no later than Dec. 18. The building is scheduled to close June 7, 2021, according to the filing.

According to Maxion Wheels’ website, the plant makes steel wheels for commercial vehicles. The plant was opened in 1927.
