A medical emergency was the cause of a Tuesday morning crash that left a 67-year-old man dead in Contra Costa County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities identified the man Tuesday afternoon as 67-year-old Joaquin Azevedo, of Martinez.
According to authorities, Azevedo suffered a heart attack as he drove a white Dodge Durango on Santa Fe Avenue in Pacheco. He suffered the attack around 8:04 a.m. as the car approached Rose Street.
Azevedo veered off the road and the Durango rolled slowly into a fence, authorities said. Azevedo died at the scene.
There was minor damage to the fence, according to the CHP.
