CARVER – A 76-year-old Carver woman was trapped inside her car Friday afternoon after a wheel from a trailer came free, setting off a chain reaction.
Carver Police, Fire and EMS personnel responded to the area of 55 Main St. around 3:25 p.m. Aug. 28 for a report of a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment, according to a press release.
Investigation by Carver Police officers determined that a 2015 Toyota Corolla operated by a 76-year-old woman from Carver had been traveling south on Main Street while a 1995 International truck pulling a trailer operated by a 32-year-old man from Braintree had been traveling north.
At some point as they traveled by each other, a wheel from the trailer became detached. The wheel traveled across the center line into the southbound lane, striking the Toyota at the driver’s door before continuing on, then striking a mailbox and coming to rest in the front yard of 50 Main St.
At this time, it is not known what caused the wheel to come off of the trailer. Carver Fire personnel assisted in getting the driver of the Toyota out of the damaged vehicle.
Carver EMS treated her on scene before transporting her to the Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Traffic in the area was limited to one lane during the investigation and cleanup.
