ALEXIS — Abiding by social-distancing rules, members of the Alexis Village Board met in the Community Center Gym Monday evening.
Village employees Donn Sperry and Jim Olson discussed using either a camera or a smoke process to find cracks in sewer lines. Water is coming into the lines but it is not known from where. On Monday afternoon following a rain, 7 inches of water was found in a gauge that measures water coming from the sewer lines. The board approved purchasing equipment to use in the smoke process.
Damage was incurred to several village buildings in a storm earlier this summer. Property Committee members Steve Purchase, Rick Benson and Jesse Hare will compile the information that is needed for the insurance company. Information for bids will be published in an area newspaper and local newsletter.
Cardinal Mart owner Rajpal Singh has sold the business to new owners from Chicago. The new owners must apply for a liquor license in their name. Before the transaction is approved by the state and Liquor Commission, sometime in the future, liquor sales will not be allowed.
Clerk McKeown announced that wheel tax is due Sept. 1 at a cost of $10 per vehicle. Fines will be assessed after that date.
Judy Nally received the board’s permission to build a large Adirondack chair to be placed in Harkrader Park. Board members requested to know the color and where the chair is to be placed for mowing purposes.
Sperry reported hearing noises in up to six lines. This is water that is not going through the meter. The Illinois Rural Water Association will check on the noises to verify their origin.
Ryan Lair wishes to erect a shed on his property on West Hunt Avenue. A hearing will be required for this process.
Trustees approved the July meeting minutes, the treasurer’s report and payment of monthly bills.
The date of the next board meeting is Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.
